Melissa's Guide for Aging Gracefully
As I celebrate turning 43, I’m reflecting on the pillars that have become the foundation for feeling empowered and balanced in this new era of my life. I honestly feel more embodied, powerful and beautiful than ever, in both mind, body and soul. Whole body vitality is a multifaceted approach so I really focus on taking care of myself from a holistic perspective, making sure to nourish and tend to my entire body and being from the inside out. I believe that aging gracefully is a privilege and it’s exciting to embrace each new year with new practices and new insights. Let’s get right into how I stay vibing in my 40s!
Embracing a Clean, Non-Toxic Lifestyle
Avoiding endocrine disruptors has been a priority to me for decades, but with renewed technology over the past few years, I’ve taken it a step further. With endocrine-disrupting chemicals potentially impacting hormones, energy levels, and skin health, I've doubled down on avoiding toxins in all forms— make sure you look beyond just beauty products and focus on household items as well. It's incredible how this commitment has positively impacted my overall health and vitality. I have a curated list of clean, non-toxic items that my family and I love to use over on my Amazon storefront, you can find that here.
Prioritizing Intentional Movement
Daily movement is essential for my mental clarity and physical strength. Over the past year, I have prioritized my fitness more than ever and see such incredible results, not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well. I focus on strength building workouts and pilates classes. Showing up to get my body moving really keeps me motivated and builds that deeper level of commitment within myself that builds more inner integrity. Whether it’s my time at the gym, kundalini, pilates or incorporating a long walk, I’ve found that consistent exercise is absolutely key. Movement has truly become a non-negotiable part of my self-care.
Protein-Rich Nutrition for Longevity
Nutrition plays such a pivotal role in feeling vibrant and resilient, and this year, protein is at the forefront. I’m aiming for 30 grams with each meal, especially in the morning, to keep my cortisol in check. I focus on protein-rich foods like meat, fruits, and amino acid blends to support collagen and energy. Some of my go-to’s: LMNT electrolytes for minerals, and I mix holi (mane) into my matcha for a daily boost of protein and collagen!
Hormone Health as a Top Priority
Our hormones impact everything from mood and metabolism to skin health, so I’m intentionally supporting my body with lifestyle adjustments and supplements that help keep them in balance. Getting your hormones checked and keeping them harmonized is very important not only as we age, but at every stage of life. Oftentimes, due to the society we live in, our hormones can easily get out of balance. One of the major aspects of hormonal care for me includes stress management to keep cortisol levels in check, eating nourishing and nutrient-dense foods and prioritizing quality sleep hygiene, which brings me to my next pillar…
Living by the Circadian Rhythm
Circadian alignment has become essential to my health and energy. I expose myself to natural light first thing in the morning, which sets my body’s internal clock. At night, when the sun goes down, I put on my sunset glasses to minimize blue light exposure, which helps to keep my hormone levels balanced and of course promotes a restful beauty sleep. Sleep is so, so important it honestly deserves its own blog. A proper sleep cycle affects everything from skin to metabolism. By connecting with nature on a daily basis and living by the natural cycles, I’m able to align my body and achieve really replenishing sleep that supports my wellbeing. This is a game changer if you’re looking to feel amazing in your 40s and beyond.
Skincare Rituals & Monthly Facials
My skincare routine has been consistent for years and if you want to see my latest skin care routine, head over here. In addition to being extremely consistent with my skincare, I recently introduced monthly facials to focus on stimulating collagen and achieving a myofascial release. I go see Jayme Berg for this amazing treatment that is the cream of the crop of facials if you’re in Arizona. She avoids steaming and extractions (which can trigger inflammation) and instead works on connective tissue, promoting stimulation of collagen and elastin for firmer, glowing skin. I’ve noticed the difference in reduced puffiness and tension, a welcome addition to my self-care regimen.
These are the current pillars of wellness and beauty that are guiding me as I step confidently into my 43rd year. Aging well is less about fighting time and more about enhancing each moment we have, feeling empowered from the inside out. Sending you all of my blessings for the abundant years ahead full of beauty, health, joy and a deeper sense of purpose.
